Lake House Kitchen Design Ideas – The Lake House kitchen is located off the open concept great room and dining room on the third level of this home. Yes, you read that right – the kitchen is on the third level. The floor plan is unique because even though the house sits on a hill, the first two levels offer views of the hills and the third level offers views of Lake Michigan. So all the main rooms like the great room, dining room, kitchen and master suite are on the third level.
While the vaulted ceiling (revealed in the great room post a few days ago) is awesome, the kitchen, pantry and powder bath have 10′ high floors. They were originally created for wildlife viewing as the homeowner was an avid hunter. However, as the design of the room evolved into a bright and modern space, we decided it was best to keep the animals in the ‘man cave’ and leave the floors empty. I love how architecture creates a space within a space. Can you see it again?
Lake House Kitchen Design Ideas
In initial conversations with the homeowner, she told me she wanted light and bright spaces with colorful accents (a girl after my own heart…a match made in heaven.). While she is drawn to clean and polished details, the husband has a country taste, so we tried to combine elements of both styles (but of course more based on the wife’s preference, because – happy wife, happy life). Hand-scraped bleached oak flooring, live-edge maple countertops and shelving, and a knotty alder ceiling in the hallway are some of the rustic features we worked on. Pewter polished white cabinets, polished nickel hardware and quartz countertops make this room elegant. And elegant. As the builder said, “I’ve been building houses for 30 years and this is one of the three most beautiful kitchens I’ve ever built.” So kind of. Simply put, this kitchen is truly beautiful.
Cozy Country Kitchens
Just off the kitchen is a large walk-in closet with side-by-side refrigerator and freezer for extra food storage and floor-to-ceiling open shelving. In the heat of the photo shoot, I totally slipped my mind to get a photo of this beautiful room, but remember, there’s still plenty of storage to be had.
Off the kitchen is the third floor wet bar. Perfect for storing tons of barware and a cobalt glass collection, this space is best showcased by recessed lighting. It includes all the bar accessories and features needed to make the perfect drink, such as a sink, drinks cooler, wine cooler and ice machine. The black glazed gray washed red oak cabinetry pairs perfectly with the same finish and island and hood in the kitchen, and the rain glass cabinet fronts and antique mirror are the highlight of this room! Oh! And the knotty alder ceiling crown molding! Oh! And bleached white oak floors! Oh! and quartz countertops. Well, I love everything about this room. Next to the wet bar is a large window seat and some additional built-in shelves. When we were developing the concept, we created a scene showing the entire wall of this hallway:
And how did this place come about? I really like how the charcoal shiplap contrasts against the window frame and built-ins. Again, the knotty alder ceiling bomb dot com and I love it in every room in my house.

Beyond this area is the entrance to the master suite and the southern staircase. The lighting in this room is very fun and the view is amazing.
I designed this rail so the wires go through the X, not the front or back like other designs I’ve seen. It gives a very customized look – although the (super efficient) finish joiners don’t impress me.
I’m really happy with how these rooms came together; The combination of charm and rusticity was a fun design. Even though the kitchen is white, I love that it has so many textures and materials that don’t feel like a typical stark white kitchen. This place will be loved by this family for many years. Main set is next, stay tuned. This summer’s hideaway in Aurora, New York needed a kitchen update that made the most of the available space. The beautiful exposed wood frame is the trademark of this house, but this presented a challenge: how to restore it without compromising its integrity? This Philadelphia townhouse’s renovated kitchen and bath opened up and brightened a once-dark, stuffy, and inefficient family-use space.
When the academic couple moved to Ithaca from their native Denmark to teach at Cornell, the designer-savvy couple wanted to reflect their Scandinavian heritage in the details of their new sleek, modern kitchen. Originally built in the trendy Cayuga Heights in the 1940s, it was expanded to create a lighter, more open feel. Custom frameless European-style cabinetry with a beautiful white oak finish includes fun details like a hidden shelf for the microwave and pantry. A new floor installed by Rocco Design + Build, new lighting, soapstone countertops, all new appliances and a custom glass display case displaying a collection of vintage beer crates.
The kitchen of this early 1900s home, steeped in historically charming decor, required a meticulous renovation to allow our clients to present a contemporary look without compromising the architectural heritage of the space. The Rocco Design + Build team restored the original built-in cabinets and created a transition from the kitchen to a newly created breakfast nook and library. Eye-catching features include attractive dark hardwood floors and emerald green pendants above the marble kitchen island. To keep the kitchen intact, we are building a nearby laundry room and mud room.
