What problem were you trying to overcome/what gap in the market were you filling when you came up with the idea for the Houze app?

Houzz was founded by wife and husband team Adi Tatarko and Alon Cohen during a frustrating experience with their home renovation. They were frustrated by the lack of resources and motivation out there to help them articulate their vision for their home and find the right professionals to help them. They realized they weren’t alone in this frustration and started Houzz as a side project to help them and their friends simplify the process of renovating and designing their homes. Houzz began as a website, but the first Houzz app launched on the iPad in April 2010 (it was actually available the day the iPad launched!). Our goal was to create a tool that truly solves home renovation and decorating challenges and makes the process fun and productive – we have over 500,000 app reviews worldwide with a five-star average rating.
Helping with your projects has never been easier thanks to tools like IdeaBooks, which lets you save images of home designs and products, and Sketch, a feature that lets you draw on images, add Houzz stickers and products, and bring ideas to life. Our See in My Room 3D tool within the Houzz app (currently available in the US only) lets shoppers put more than a million home furnishings, decor and renovation products where they want them—from sofas to bathrooms—for every style and budget. True to measure them, in their homes.
Since Houzz launched an initial version of See in My Room 3D on its app for iPhone and iPad in May 2017, more than two million people have used AR while shopping for products on the Houzz app. People who engaged with the device were 11 times more likely to make a purchase and spent 2.7 times more time in the app.
