How To Build A Lean To Roof On A Deck

How To Build A Lean To Roof On A Deck – This step-by-step woodworking project is about how to make more oil. If you want to attach a simple eaves to the roof of a house or an existing house, I got you with a temporary plan. This model is heavy duty and has a roof with a slope of 11.5 degree, but please follow the building code and hire a professional if you don’t have the skills to do the project yourself.

We recommend that you invest in the best materials you can afford. Therefore, you should buy wood that is resistant to weather, such as tall wood, cedar or red wood. If you use pine regularly, I recommend that you use the right products to make it last longer. Be sure to measure correctly before adjusting the size of the product to the correct size. Drill pilot holes before placing the wood screws, so the wood does not split. See all my premium plans here.

The first step in the project is to layout the lean to cover frame. Therefore, choose the place and level the surface carefully. Make sure you remove the plant layer and even out the surface. Use batter board and string to layout post position. Use the 3′-4′-5′ rule for each corner, making sure they are square. Measure and adjust the diagonals so that they are equal.

You should know the lean to roof plan is just an example so you understand the ideas needed for the job. However, you can adjust the model size as you wish. You can change the height of the frame, the angle of the roof and the size of the footprint.

After marking the position of the poles, you need to dig a 3′ deep hole in the ground using a pole digger. Install the pipe materials and fit the frame in place, making sure that they are perfect pipes. Fill the letters with stones and install the anchors. Use rope and batter board to fix the anchors.

Please refer to local codes so you can determine the correct depth. Also, in some places you need to set the letters in stone. This is why reading the local code is important, as the depth of the front row varies according to your location.

Use the chalk line to make the top of the frame, so they are in line with each other. Use a circle to cut the top of the frame. Keep the braces on, until you build the frame for the lean roof.

Fit the beams to the top of the frame and run them vertically. Use a post lock to tighten the beam. Leave equal overhangs in front and back of the top beam. If you cut the top of the frame level, the beam should be perfectly horizontal.

Use 4×4 wood for braces. Use a miter saw to make a 45 degree cut on both ends of the strap. Check that the posts are plumbed and the upper beams are perfectly horizontal before attaching the straps. Drill the pilot holes and insert 5″ screws to secure them to the posts.

Next, attach the 2×6 ledger board to the building. The ledger is installed in the house considering the roof slope of 11.5 degrees. If you want to change it, move the list up or down. It is important to read the local codes before connecting the laser board. In this example I think using 5″ lag bolts is fine, but it will not apply to your code. The code also shows the number of bolts needed and the distance between them.

Next, we will build the rafters for the patio cover using 2x6s. As you can see in the picture, use the miter saw to make an 11.5 degree cut on one end of the rafter.

Fit the rafters to the top of the patio cover structure. Use the information from the drawing to space the rafters every 16″ spaces. The number you see on the plan represents the distance between the rafters. Use rafter hangers to secure the rafters to the ledger board. Use cable ties to secure the rafters to the electrical cables. I recommend that you use 1 1/2″ standard screws to secure them.

Use 1/2″ plywood for the roof sheathing. Make cuts in the sheets and place them on the roof. Do not leave gaps between the sheets and place everything properly. Drill the pilot holes and insert 1 5/8″ screws in the framing, every 8″.

Use 1×8 wood for the roof. Cut the corners of the trim with a miter saw. Fit the trims to the sides of the roof fat and lock them in place with 6d nails.

Remember that you need to add flashing on the building walls and lean-to roof. Also, you caulk the joints to prevent water ingress.

Lean To Installation

You can fit asphalt shingles to protect the roof, as this is a straightforward solution. Therefore, install a roof on the roof paper, making sure that the strips overlap at least 2 “. Secure the tar paper with roofing staples to the plywood sheets. Before installation asphalt shingles, lay a primer under the roof. Be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions before starting the installation, because the difference is different.

First class with 3 tab shingles, second class with 2 1/2 tabs, third class with 2 tabs, fourth class with 1 1/2 tabs, fifth class with 1 tab, sixth class with 1/2 tab. Repeat the process from the beginning starting with the seventh class. Don’t forget that the shingles should hang about 1/4″ higher than the edge. Also, secure the asphalt shingles to the roof deck with tack.

You have to love the convenience of patio covers. It’s very easy to build and you’ll love the shade on hot summer days, especially if you have an ATV or bike. It will also make a cute fence.

Last but not least, you need to take care of the competition. Therefore, fill the hole with wood putty and then smooth the surface with sandpaper. Apply a few coats of paint or stain to the material to improve the appearance of the shade and protect the material from corrosion. You should check out my free plans on how to build a patio cover. Leaning sheds are a great design to put in your backyard and fill with furniture, decorative items, or anything else you need to store. You can build an affordable home with materials purchased from local hardware or home improvement stores. Since the incline to the house is small and light, you don’t have to worry about pouring the foundation stone. As its name suggests, the roof tilts down from the back instead of peaking in the middle.
