The customer’s inspiration gallery was consistent and clear. It featured an abundance of airy, light and graceful spaces filled with gorgeous fabrics and natural materials. They loved the idea of having a rustic yet refined look that would make their home feel like a true retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Considering the inspirational images of the clients and the results of the interior design style quiz, the team proposed two designers who made a promising match for the project. Both had the right artistic fluency and keen eye for elaborate detail. And while both moodboards featured comparable furniture and layouts, the clients ultimately chose to go with the concepts proposed by Drew F.
Drew’s vision was based on the basic layer of furniture that customers had already purchased. He developed a layered design concept with distressed wood tones, stylish shades of white and cream, and a pop of blue. As a result, he counteracted the lack of natural light, making the room feel warm, classic and inviting.
In the main sitting area, Drew kept the existing sectional sofa for comfortable lounging. On the other side was placed a majestic armchair reminiscent of the Louis XV style. The coffee table and end tables brought the distressed whitewash often seen in the French country decorating style. Sheer curtains kept the room light and airy during the day. Meanwhile, a duo of table lamps that match the lighting scheme give the room a relaxing evening glow.

The secondary, more formal seating area was comfortably arranged around the fireplace for intimate gatherings. The area was anchored with a stunning area rug adorned with a vintage-inspired floral motif. The blue pattern was also a perfect companion to the pair of accent chairs purchased earlier. In addition to the general style of the living room in the French country style, the fireplace has undergone a facelift, made of whitewash and a new mantle. The wooden piece complemented the other wooden elements in the room and hosted a pair of candles and an antique mirror for finishing touches.
The dining table set was another feature the customer wanted to keep. By choosing to extend the white color scheme throughout the room, the designer managed to make the room exceptionally light and airy. To enhance the visual interest, he used a blue in several features, from the laundry rug to the whimsical corn wallpaper on the accent wall.
The stylish white composition is continued with a matching display cabinet and a pair of upholstered accent chairs. Although modern, the interior still conveys the classic look of the French country dining room through details such as spindle legs and a distinctive chair back design.
A rustic console table added an extra touch of country charm. This beautiful piece of reclaimed wood had a few choice accessories: a classic lamp and the obligatory bouquet of fresh flowers. Above, the beveled mirror completed the centerpiece of a French country dining room. The chandelier, a simple metal feature with delicate crystal accents, was the familiar finishing touch.
Design Spotlight: French Country
For the master bedroom, the goal was to create a calm and inviting retreat that successfully transports the residents right out into the countryside. The cohesive flow of the room meant a clean, simple and white French country bedroom design, stylish and cozy at the same time.
The walls, painted in a soft shade of white, matched the satin finish of the dressers and bedside tables. At the same time, the slim profile of the four-poster bed provided the right mix of classic and modern. The addition of delicate sheer curtains ensured privacy without compromising the flow of light or disturbing the overall harmony.
The washed carpet with its vintage-inspired patterns enhanced the character of the dreamy country room. Furthermore, the bedside table with its curved lines and carved legs followed the same narrative. A bright red lamp on the dresser along with a delicate flower arrangement provided the only color accents in the room. The end result is a genuinely romantic bedroom with a sophisticated touch.
Before the electronic interior transformation, the room received very little sunlight and needed clever design choices to illuminate it. Other design flaws included the lack of decoration and no splash of color. The clients wanted a cohesive flow, well connected, with an atmosphere that leans towards the feminine side – and the designer certainly delivered.

The Complete French Country Style Home Decor Guide
Although mixing and matching eye-catching patterns is more common in the English cottage style, the French cottage style is not far behind when it comes to patterns. Toile, ticking stripes, Vichy checks, dotted lines and delicate flowers are all part of classic French cottage decor.
The furniture in this style is a charming mix of restored and antique pieces. Think curved lines, distressed finishes and ornate details that add a touch of elegance without being too formal.
A farmhouse table with worn edges, a solid vintage armchair or a delicately carved antique chest of drawers that displays precious ornaments.
My biggest piece of advice here is to go furniture hunting if you don’t have vintage items in your home. Look for hidden treasures in vintage and antique shops, flea markets and even online marketplaces.

Try to find furniture with a soul – pieces that bear the mark of time and use, such as beautifully turned wood, gentle edge wear or slightly faded upholstery.
These imperfections make each item truly special, adding to your home the real and lived-in charm that French cottages are all about.
We think of decorative elements as the finishing touches on a perfectly curated background, and to some extent this is true. However, when we talk about the French cottage style, decorative items are the basis for achieving this home decoration.
Look for decorative accessories with finishes that will wear over time,
