Oculus Quest 2 Pc Setup
Oculus Quest 2 Pc Setup – While the Quest 2 is a great device in its own right, it has its limitations, primarily due to limited processing power and graphics settings. Bypassing this, you can connect it to your computer and use its hardware instead! There are two ways to do this – wired and wireless. Here’s how to use both of these options!
To connect the headset to the computer, you must use Oculus Link. Naturally, you’ll need a cable – you can get an official Oculus Link cable, or you can use any other USB 3 cable with a USB C connector you might have.

Before connecting the headset to your computer, you need to install the Oculus app on your computer. To do so, click the “Download Software” button on this site: https://www.oculus.com/setup/.

After you have successfully installed the app, login to it. Make sure your headset is unlocked before trying to connect it to your computer to avoid compatibility issues.
Tip: Make sure your cable is long enough to sit/move comfortably while playing. Be careful not to drop the cable suddenly – you can damage it, your computer or the headset!
You will be asked to choose whether or not you want to enable Oculus Link. Select Activate and wait for the link environment to load. Now you can access your desktop directly through the center menu bar (small monitor icon) or launch things like Steam VR and other VR games installed on your computer.
To exit Oculus Link mode, simply use the menu bar – it’s the far left option.

First, Quest 2 strongly recommends using a 5 GHz connection for this. We agree – you can do this on weak/slow connections, the results will be a bit disappointing. All of this will cause you to end up with lag, screen blur and possibly motion sickness.
The easiest way to connect to your computer wirelessly is to use the Virtual Desktop application with Sidequest Patch. SideQuest is a program for your computer that allows you to add Oculus Store software to your device.
Virtual Desktop is an application you can buy in the store – by default, it gives you access to your computer’s desktop through a cable connection. Since we don’t want to here, make sure you download this app and install SideQuest on your computer.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to connect your computer and headset via a cable. Download the Virtual Desktop patch from the SideQuest store.

The patch is free, so don’t worry about paying anything extra. It is worth noting that the virtual desktop and the patch were created by the same person – a developer. In other words, you don’t have to worry about compatibility issues etc.
Download and install the patch on your headset via SideQuest and wait for the process to complete. When that happens, you’ll also want to download the Virtual Desktop Streamer app on your computer. Your headset should be able to connect to the computer.
The official page where you can find it is: https://www.vrdesktop.net. Here you can also find additional help and advice on wired and wireless connections. If you’re having trouble with virtual desktop software, this is the place to go.
After installing the app on your computer, run it (and set it up appropriately after launching it so you don’t have to launch it manually every time) and you’re good to go.

Tip: For quality reasons, PC-based VR games are probably best played via cable. If you don’t have an up-to-date internet connection, you may have a problem playing visually intensive games.
After this somewhat lengthy prep work, connecting your Quest 2 wirelessly to your headset is a simple matter of plugging it in, launching the app in question, and sitting back while the connection is established. Then you can use the Virtual Desktop app to control your desktop and play Steam games wirelessly! Share your thoughts in the comments.

No Cable: Play Pc Vr Games Wirelessly On Oculus Quest 2 With ‘air Link’ Upgrade
Oh yes, my PC games are available in Quest 2, Wireless, Virtual Room. This is getting weird.
The best feature of Oculus Quest and Quest 2 is that they can be manually connected to your gaming PC via USB, so you can play the most demanding VR games that are impossible to run on a headset. This is great if you want to play games like Half-Life: Alyx
But the obvious downside is that you’re now physically tied to a computer — so much for the wireless freedom that the Quest platform advertises.
Since then, virtual desktop developers — and, more recently, Oculus itself — have figured out how to stream a visual feed from your computer to your VR headset while quickly syncing all your movements over Wi-Fi. Both options give you the best of both worlds: letting you play the games you want on your PC without cables.
Virtual Desktop Can Now Stream Pc Vr Games To Quest
Oculus’ approach, called Air Link, now comes as an add-on feature with the headset (if you’re running the v28 software), and requires a $20 app to use the virtual desktop. Both options have benefits, so we’ll walk you through setting each up.
In late April 2021, Oculus released v28 firmware that includes Air Link, a feature that enables wireless PC streaming. To check that your Quest is running the correct software:
Now you need to enable the feature in the Oculus app on your computer. First, make sure the app is updated to v28 like the headset.
Now that your software is updated and the feature is enabled on your host computer, you can enable it on the headset. Do this:

If you need a quick adjustment to optimize Air Link’s bitrate performance (or you want to stop using Air Link and return to the Quest interface), the option at the bottom left of your viewing field pulls up a menu (shown below) that allows you to do so.
The Virtual Desktop app gives you access to your PC with the lenses of the Quest VR headset. You can use it for games, as we do here, but you can also watch movies or browse the Internet stored in various virtual environments on your computer. You can buy an app-specific version of Quest here for $20. (Make sure it says it’s compatible with Quest under the buy button.)
Compared to using Air Link, Virtual Desktop doesn’t completely take you out of the Quest interface. You can still press the Oculus button on the right touch controller to bring up the Quest universal menu. Still, it allows much finer tuning than the Air Link currently does. You can adjust a lot of parameters to find the perfect performance for your setup and it also has some additional tweaks like allowing you to choose the virtual environment in which the application will run. For some examples, there is an apartment, a computer room, a hall and a large space of deep space.
Get a virtual desktop if you want a really customized experience, or an alternative if Air Link doesn’t work well for you.
How To Set Up Your Desk In Vr On Oculus Quest 2
There’s another app to download for your PC: Virtual Desktop Streamer. It’s free and made by the same people who made the virtual desktop app you bought in Quest or Quest 2. This app is essential for streaming PC content to your headset over Wi-Fi.

You should see your computer appear in the list of devices available to connect to from the Virtual Desktop app on your Quest or Quest 2.
Once connected, the Options button (equivalent to the Oculus button on the left touch controller) is mapped to open the virtual desktop’s top-level menu, as shown in the image below. From there, clicking “Games” will display all the games installed on your computer. You can simply load each one from there and your computer will handle all the hard work of opening the required applications.
