Home Design App Ui

Home Design App Ui – Imagine a home where everything can be controlled with one tap on your smartphone. You can change the lights to suit your mood, lock and unlock your door from anywhere, create the perfect environment for watching your favorite movies, and the list goes on. This looks fascinating and sounds like we live in a magical world, but all these things already exist in reality. Thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT), which enables the concept of a smart home.

Last winter, I had the opportunity to design a smart home application for Smartify that deals with smart home products. This article describes my journey in understanding and implementing home control over the phone.

Before working on this project, I knew very little about the Internet of Things or the smart home. A good understanding of the technology, how it works, target users, problems with current products, etc. was required to provide a solution that improves the user experience.

Before proceeding to design the app, I made the following things clear in my mind.

The Internet of Things is an ecosystem consisting of interconnected physical objects (things) that can be accessed via the Internet. IoT is actually quite a simple concept, it means taking everything in the world and connecting it to the internet.

A Smart Home system includes lighting, heating (such as thermostats), ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and security, as well as home appliance control and automation.

The Smart Home system is one step towards the Internet of Things. All the brand’s smart devices are connected to the cloud network. There are several brands that offer their services such as Nest, Amazon, LG, Samsung, etc. All of them work almost the same way.

When the user changes the device’s settings in the Alexa app, it sends a message with the name

To the controller that controls the device. This controller can connect to multiple devices and can control them through the device cloud.

Let’s say you turned on the light in the Alexa app. It identifies the relevant controller and sends an instruction. The controller then reads the directive, recognizes the light in its cloud and turns it on.

Since there are many smart home brands, the consumer can have several different brands of smart devices. But they could not always keep in touch or communicate with each other. The Nest thermostat controller does not read the instruction sent by the Alexa app. Therefore, the user has to install a set of apps for each brand of device. Multiple smart home apps that don’t work together lead to a poor user experience.

Let’s say you have five smart devices in your home, each from a different brand. Every time you want to control the device, you have to open a new app. It’s frustrating, of course, and the problem grows when there are more brands.

Since many people who used the company’s products encountered this problem, our product team found a solution to build a single app that could control all devices.

This is where the use of developer APIs comes into play. APIs, or application programming interfaces, in the most general sense are lines of code that allow different software components to talk to each other to enable different tasks or actions. A number of companies now offer APIs to developers of smart home products. These APIs allow our developers to build a third-party service that would interact with devices from different brands.

I went through user reviews of existing apps to know the real problems people are facing. Although the apps solved the basic need to control devices with a smartphone/computer, there were significant complaints about the user interface and interaction elements.

After reading the reviews and having a chat with the product manager, I realized that we need to design an app that makes it very easy to manage smart devices. It should be a rather playful and fluid overall user experience.

So far so good, and I was ready for the task of designing a smart home app. The rest of the article describes my implementation process in designing the application.

Below is the entire user flow of the app. The purple parts represent the main navigation of the application.

These are preliminary sketches I prepared before designing the high quality interfaces. Paper and pen are a convenient way to combine your ideas and analyze different solutions.

How I Designed Otomate

As the program’s first interaction with the user, the onboarding process is a very important part of the design. It provides an overall look and feel and guides the user through the features of the app.

I tried to keep the user interface playful and easy to use. It was necessary to make sure that controlling devices with a smartphone is more comfortable than manual control. Below are the different parts of the app.

My home includes all the controls for the smart devices in the home. The devices are divided into room-specific and device-type hierarchies. This is useful when a user has multiple devices and needs to find a specific device. If there are less devices, it can always go to the All devices section.

While we can control devices with a smartphone, smart homes can do something else. A Device Group or Device can be programmed to a specific location that can be triggered to provide custom environments, workflows or schedules.

With the help of scenes, you can create individual environments according to your mood. The scene can be triggered by touching the Activate button. Views are basically third-party settings in our app, so they can’t be edited.

Schedules are used to change device settings for a specific period of time. They can be used to create custom views for the user. One advantage of timetables is that they are not third party settings, so we can easily modify the timetable and create new timetables according to our needs.

The Favorites section is a dashboard for frequently used devices, where you can quickly access their settings. When you tap on a specific device, a bottom slider will appear with the device’s controls.

Notifications can appear on any screen. They are displayed by date on a separate notification screen. The Settings screen includes options for adding new devices, syncing, additional information, instructions, etc.

That’s all folks! Thanks for reading it to the end. This is the first design I’ve written. Click the clap button if you enjoyed reading and learned something from it.

My home page design process Home pages are pretty busy these days. If you’re a designer, you’ve probably put your hands in theirs at some point.
